How to choose a jacket based on your body shape?
Vaquela
A successful jacket does not seek to correct the body: it organizes volumes and gives purpose to the silhouette. A few simple guidelines are enough to choose a cut in which you immediately feel right.
Start with the desired effect
Before thinking about body types, consider the look you want to create. A short line energizes the waist, a long jacket visually elongates the silhouette, and a loose cut gives a more contemporary movement.
- Structure: defined shoulders, clean lapels, marked waist.
- Elongate: vertical line, understated closure, length below the hips.
- Soften: soft fabric, open collar, fluid volume.
Find the right length
A short jacket draws the eye to the waist and works well with high-waisted trousers or a long skirt. Hip-length is versatile. A long jacket creates an elegant vertical line, especially when left open or lightly belted.
Balance the volumes
If the bottom of the outfit is loose, a more structured jacket clarifies the silhouette. With straight or slim-fit trousers, an oversized jacket can become the statement piece. Balance comes from contrast: one highly voluminous area is usually enough.
Check the fit
Shoulder seams, sleeve ease, and freedom of movement matter more than a size label. Close the jacket, raise your arms, and look at it from the side: the garment should remain neat without pulling.
